At early growth stages when corn is greater than 12 inches tall
Collect the most recent mature leaf from 15 to 20 plants from
random locations in the field. This leaf will be the first fully
developed leaf below
the whorl with a collar (a light-colored
"band" located at the
base of an exposed leaf blade where it
is attached to the stem
of the plant). Leaves within the whorl
have
no visible leaf collar.
Write these codes on the Plant Sample Information form:
Growth Stage: E (early growth, >12 inches)
Plant Part: M (most recent mature leaf)
Plant Position: U (upper plant)
