Gary's Down East Seafood Restaurant was built in 1985 by John Gary Hardison, who still owns the business today. We specialize in seafood, carrying shrimp, scallops, oysters, flounder, homemade downeast crabcakes, jumbo lump crabmeat, and yellow-fin tuna year-round and live soft shell crabs in the summer. We also have other fish such as Grouper, Mahi Mahi, and Wahoo on special occasionally during the year. We bottle our Downeast Sauce and package our seafood breader and hushpuppy mix. We hope to have our cocktail and tartar sauces on the market soon as well.
Gary's Downeast Sauce is a great all-purpose sauce that lets you do the creating. Here are some ideas:
Coat chicken well with Downeast Sauce, then bake or grill to perfection. This sauce is also great on chops!!
Baste any fish fillet with sauce, place in baking pan, and cook to perfection.
Place fresh salmon fillet in baking dish, coat with sauce, bake at 400 degrees for 30 minutes, or to your liking. Remove from oven, garnish with fresh chives and orange slices. You have just created a gourmet meal!
This sauce makes a Reuben sandwich a real treat.
Plain ham sandwich? Not anymore…just add sauce, lettuce, tomato, and your favorite cheese….now your cookin’!!
This sauce is great for dipping French fries; and combined with your favorite cheese makes an excellent twist to your baked potato.
Add this sauce to your cole slaw to give it some zing!
This sauce was originally created for tuna, but is an excellent topping for any food.

Take Hwy. 70 to New Bern and then take the Downtown New Bern/Washington/Bayboro exit off of Hwy. 70. Next take the Bayboro exit and you will be on Hwy. 55. Continue on Hwy. 55 until you reach Grantsboro which will be your second stop light. Take a right onto Hwy. 306 South and we are 8 miles down and on the right.
We are open Tuesday-Sunday 11:00 AM-9:00 PM. Sunday nights and during the winter it is best to come before 8:30 PM.
