Horseshoe pitching contest enters third year
at Mountain State Fair
FLETCHER — A lucky horseshoe and a good throwing arm could help some fairgoers earn ribbons and prize money during the Horseshoe Pitching Competition at the N.C. Mountain State Fair Tuesday, Sept. 11.
“This competition is great because anyone can enter,” said Fair Manager Matt Buchanan. “We’ve seen some familiar faces the past two years, and look forward to even bigger crowds this year.”
The contest includes singles and doubles classes. All competitions will be held in the covered ring behind McGough Arena, starting at 7 p.m. Registration will take place on site just prior to the competition.
Participants will be charged a $5 entry fee, which will form a jackpot payout for the top winners. Ribbons and prizes will be awarded for first, second, third and fourth place in each class. Contests will be judged based on the official rules of the National Horseshoe Pitchers Association.
You can find out more about the competition in the fair’s Premium Book. The rules can be found online at http://www.mountainfair.org/2012/dd.pdf.
