||Judges selected the artwork of 12 elementary students out of 2,373 entries to be included in the 2012-13 N.C. Farm to School Calendar. The calendar includes daily agricultural facts and highlights the Farm to School program. This is the second year the popular calendar has been produced.
||The N.C. Farm to School program is a cooperative effort of the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services’ Food Distribution and Marketing divisions. These divisions secure orders from school nutrition directors, and source and deliver locally grown fruits and vegetables for school lunch programs. The program started in 1997 and is coming off its best year ever, with sales breaking the $1 million mark for the first time and participation by 78 school districts statewide. The calendar contest was open to students in grades kindergarten through 5.
A printer-friendly version of the calendar can also be found at www.ncfarmtoschool.com.
