State Farmers Market announces March events
RALEIGH – The first day of spring may be a few weeks away, but the State Farmers Market has already planned a full lineup of special events in March to kick off the spring growing season.
The season starts with the Spring Craft Fair March 8-10. The annual event features vendors with a variety of floral arrangements and ornamental garden accessories, handmade baby blankets and quilts, jewelry and handbags, candles and soaps, as well as stained glass, woodworking and other crafts. The fair will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
On Saturday, March 16, the public is invited to participate in North Carolina’s Arbor Day Celebration. Exhibitors from forest-related organizations will be on site to provide educational information and tips for urban and backyard tree conservation. In addition, the Triangle Chapter of the Society of American Foresters will give away 1,000 seedlings at the event, which runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Also, the N.C. Arbor Day Photo Contest winner will be announced at 1:30 p.m.
The Independent Garage Owners of N.C. will host its Car Care Fair from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 23. Visitors can receive free vehicle maintenance inspections and talk with experts about proper vehicle care.
The farmers market currently has a great selection of winter vegetables, firewood and plants available in the Farmers Building. Visitors also will find a variety of fresh meats, cheeses and specialty products in the Market Shoppes, as well as lawn supplies and garden accessories at Super Sod and Market Imports. You also can enjoy a meal featuring N.C. seafood and locally produced food at the N.C. Seafood Restaurant or State Farmers Market Restaurant.
Other upcoming spring activities include Strawberry Day, Crawfish Day and Blueberry Day. For more details about those events, follow the State Farmers Market on Facebook or go to www.statefarmersmarket.org.
