Field days in May will highlight wheat research

RALEIGH — Wheat farmers can learn about advances in research on the crop at six field days across the state in May.

The field days are sponsored by the N.C. Small Grain Growers Association with cooperation from the U.S. Agricultural Research Service and N.C. State University. Admission is free.

The schedule is as follows:

  • May 7, 4 p.m., Southern Coastal Plains Field Day, Stone Farm, U.S. 301, Rowland. The location is 1 mile north of South of the Border on U.S. 301. The research plot is on the left.
  • May 9, 4 p.m., Beaufort County Field Day, Impact Agronomics, 2966 Railroad Bed Road, Pantego.
  • May 10, noon, Northeast Ag Expo Field Day, White Hat Seed Farm, 102 White Hat Road, Hertford.
  • May 14, 4 p.m., Piedmont Research Station Field Day, 8350 Sherrills Ford Road, Salisbury.
  • May 16, noon, Union County Field Day, Poplin Farm, 3310 Poplin Road, Monroe.
  • May 21, 2 p.m., U.S. Agricultural Research Service Field Day, Small Grain Research Area, 3512 Mid Pines Road, Raleigh.

“Field days give farmers the opportunity to see new variety development, disease and insect control, the latest fungicide recommendations and the latest agronomy work,” said Dan Weathington, executive director of the Small Grain Growers Association. “These demonstrations can help farmers maximize yields and earn higher net returns on the money they’ve invested.”
