State Farmers Market to host Blueberry Day Thursday, June 18

WHAT:

North Carolina blueberry growers will celebrate a banner crop at this year’s Blueberry Day at the State Farmers Market. Guests can enjoy free blueberry cobbler topped with ice cream prepared by the State Farmers Market Restaurant, and learn more about the state’s $71 million blueberry industry. Farmers will also offer freshly picked blueberries for sale.

Blueberry Day is sponsored by the N.C. Blueberry Council, N.C. Dairy Industry Promotion Committee, State Farmers Market Restaurant, State Farmers Market and the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.

Thursday, June 18
11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

WHERE:

Event area located between the N.C. Seafood Restaurant and the garden section of the Farmers Building.

June is Blueberry Month in North Carolina. The state is the seventh-largest producer of blueberries in the nation, with growers producing 48.5 million pounds of berries in 2014. About 75 percent of the state’s crop is sold fresh at grocery stores, farmers markets and roadside stands. More information is available at www.northcarolinablueberries.com.
