Agricultural Statistics - Weather & Crops Report:
For the week ending March 8, 2009


GENERAL: Most of North Carolina received precipitation in the form of a rain and snow event that moved through the state early in the week. Precipitation ranged from none in several cities to 2.51 inches in Gastonia. Cool temperatures early in the week gave way to a significant warm up by weeks end. There were 3.2 days suitable for field work, compared to 5.1 for the previous week. Statewide soil moisture levels are rated at 5% short, 69% adequate, and 26% surplus. Activities during the week included fertilizer and lime applications, preparation of farming equipment, planting Irish potatoes and cabbage, and feeding and tending to livestock.
