For the week ending March 15, 2009


GENERAL: North Carolina received widespread rain last week with the largest amounts falling over the weekend.  Temperatures were above normal across the state. There were 3.9 days suitable for field work, compared to 3.2 for the previous week. Statewide soil moisture levels are rated at 7% short, 57% adequate, and 36% surplus.  Activities during the week included soil preparation, fertilizer applications, planting Irish potatoes and cabbage, and feeding and tending to livestock.
