Agricultural Statistics - Weather & Crops Report:
For the week ending April 19, 2009

 


GENERAL: North Carolina received precipitation last week ranging from no rain to 1.95 inches in New Bern.  Average temperatures were below normal, ranging from 44 to 60 degrees.  A frost last week impacted a few areas of the state, with some strawberry and Irish potato growers reporting crop damage.  There were 4.0 days suitable for field work, compared to 3.9 for the previous week.  Statewide soil moisture levels are rated at 2% short, 72% adequate, and 26% surplus.  Activities during the week included planting corn, transplanting flue-cured tobacco, harvesting cabbage, and field preparations.  Wet conditions limited fieldwork in some areas of the state.
