Agricultural Statistics - Weather & Crops Report:
For the week ending June 14, 2009

 


GENERAL: The state received precipitation last week ranging from no rain in Kenansville to 3.86 inches in Cherry Point.  The wet weather delayed hay and small grain harvesting activities in many areas of the state.  Average temperatures were normal, ranging from 65 to 79 degrees. There were 4.5 days suitable for field work, compared to 4.7 for the previous week.  Statewide soil moisture levels are rated at 1% very short, 9% short, 64% adequate, and 26% surplus.  Activities during the week included harvesting hay, potatoes, barley, oats, wheat and truck crops, and planting soybeans, sorghum, sweet potatoes, and transplanting burley tobacco.
