Agricultural Statistics - Weather & Crops Report:
For the week ending June 28, 2009

 


GENERAL: The Coastal Region received some precipitation last week while the rest of the state remained mostly dry.  Precipitation ranged from no rain to 2.3 inches in Castle Hayne.  Average temperatures ranged from 64 to 82 degrees.  The hot, dry weather dominated the week and more time was available for fieldwork than during any other week this year.  There were 6.4 days suitable for field work, compared to 4.3 for the previous week.  Statewide soil moisture levels are rated at 2% very short, 24% short, 67% adequate, and 7% surplus.  Activities during the week included harvesting hay, potatoes, and small grains, planting soybeans, sorghum, and sweet potatoes.
