Agricultural Statistics - Weather & Crops Report:
For the week ending July 5, 2009

GENERAL: The majority of the state received very little rain last week, ranging from no rain to 2.13 inches in Elizabeth City.  Average temperatures ranged from 63 to 82 degrees.  Heat and a lack of rainfall continued to stress crops, especially corn and late planted soybeans.  There were 6.5 days suitable for field work, the most of any week this year, compared to 6.4 for the previous week.  Statewide soil moisture levels were rated at 17% very short, 43% short, 39% adequate, and 1% surplus.  Activities during the week included cutting hay and harvesting potatoes.
