The Fuel Quality section is responsible for enforcing motor fuel (gasoline and diesel fuel) quality standards, heating fuel (kerosene and fuel oil) quality standards, and motor oil quality standards. Tests are performed on site and at the Fuel Quality Laboratory in Raleigh.

Registering a Motor Fuel Brand Name:  North Carolina law requires that all motor fuel products sold within the State bear a brand name that has been registered with the Director.  Click here to download the form for registering a new brand name and complete it using the instructions provided on the second page.  Please call the Fuel Quality Program Manager at 984-236-4777 if you have any questions regarding this form, or to check to see if the brand name you want to register is already in use.
