The N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services has a wide variety of programs and services to help ensure food safety. NCDA&CS works with state and federal agencies to ensure a wholesome and safe food supply. In addition, the department also:
- Ensures a safe food supply through the inspection of commercial and home-based manufacturing facilities and retailers.

- Inspects meat and poultry processing facilities and businesses that wholesale meat and poultry products.

- Monitors the health of livestock and poultry.
Veterinary Division
- Tests fruits and vegetables for harmful levels of pesticide residue.
