The Aleen Steinberg Visitor Center is located at the High Falls Access Area, 89 Buck Forest Road, Cedar Mountain, NC 28718. Opened to the public on July 1, 2013, the visitor center is staffed by dedicated volunteers with knowledge of the area. It is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, March 15 to Dec. 31 and on weekends from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 1 to March 14.

What Can I Find at the Visitor Center?

  • Trail maps and other publications.
  • Directions to popular forest features.
  • Information on local off-forest attractions.
  • Public restrooms are located in a building adjacent to the visitor center and are open year-round.
  • Free Wi-Fi internet access.
  • Pick-up location for prearranged permits.

Large trash dumpsters are located near the visitor center and Hooker Falls Access Area. Trash cans are not available at other forest locations, so all visitors should plan to take their trash with them when they leave.

The parking lots are not gated, but the legal hours to access DSRF are 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., year-round. Please be aware, however, that there are gates that prevent people from driving beyond the parking areas and onto forest roads and trails.
