The North Carolina Forest Service (NCFS) has a number of possible water restoration projects on the 474-acre Gill State Forest that would improve aquatic habitat, flood control, and riparian forestlands.

For planning purposes, NCFS contracted with restoration experts in 2013 to further assess and prioritize water resource improvements, and provide some preliminary engineering design and analysis on the highest priority stream and river reaches.

A Water Resources Restoration Master Plan was completed in March 2014. The NCFS is using this Master Plan to acquire grant funding to complete high priority restoration projects wholly contained on the State Forest property.
