On average, the Fuel Quality Program investigates over 200 consumer complaints a year regarding the quality of fuels sold at retail locations within the state.  Typical complaints received include fuel being contaminated with water or sediment, cross contamination between fuels (for example - gasoline contamination in diesel fuel), gasoline is below octane, and gasoline contains too much ethanol.

To file a complaint, either call the laboratory at 984-236-4770 or report your complaint online. Please be sure to include the following information:

•    The type of fuel (gasoline, diesel, kerosene, etc.).
•    The date and time (if known) of the purchase.
•    The number of the pump you used (if known).
•    The grade (premium, plus, regular, non-ethanol, etc.) if gasoline was purchased.
•    If you made the station staff aware of the problem.
•    If you took the vehicle to a mechanic.  If yes, did they pull a sample of the fuel that you would like us to collect and test.
•    Your contact information - phone and/or email address. If you prefer written correspondence, please include a mailing address.

Any details that you can provide regarding your purchase will help the inspector target their investigation.

What happens next:

Once the laboratory has received your complaint an inspector will be assigned to investigate. When the inspector arrives at the station, they will collect samples of all the products offered for sale from the dispensers and test them onsite in their mobile laboratory. They will also check the storage tanks for contamination and collect information from the station’s delivery and maintenance records surrounding the time of your purchase. Any products that fail to meet quality specifications will be officially closed by the inspector at that time through a Notice of Violation. The information collected during the inspection will be summarized in a complaint investigation report and this document as well as the testing data will be made available to you and any other interested parties, once the investigation is complete. Products that are closed by the inspector will remain so until remediation is complete and the fuel quality is verified to be within specification.
