Veterinary - Avian Entry Requirements
02 NCAC 52B .0603 Entry of Avian Species into the State of North Carolina is the NC Administrative Code outlining state requirements for various categories of bird to be brought into NC. Dropdowns below summarize these requirements for the specified categories.
NOTE: If birds are only planning to travel through NC or have a short ‘hotel stay’ prior to continuing onto their destination outside NC, please contact us using the information at the bottom of the page to determine if documentation is needed.

Additional Requirements That May Apply:
- If coming from outside of the United States/US territories, then you must refer to the USDA for federal movement requirements. Requirements will differ based on whether birds are deemed “poultry” or “pets” by the USDA.
- Transportation services such as the postal service, various train and/or airline services, etc. may have additional requirements for moving birds. Please contact them directly for instructions.
Always consult the local ordinances for the county and city of destination prior to movement to ensure that plans are in compliance.
