Action Codes
For each sample, note the letter in the Action Code column to determine the action that is being recommended.
For example, since the letter in the column for the first sample is "B," the recommended action is B: Possible damage; consider chemical treatment.
A. No expected harm to crop production
B. Possible damage; consider chemical treatment
C. Chemical treatment recommended
D. Use of nematode-resistant variety recommended
E. Rotate with nonhost crop(s)
Nema Notes (if present)
Contain information about nematodes detected in the assay as well as management options.
If there is a number listed in the Nema Notes column, go to the Useful References page to find the corresponding Nema Note.
In the example below, Nema Note 7-2 is referenced, so on the Useful References page, find Nema Note 7-2.
"S" or "H" Columns
A pair of columns is found below each species of nematode found in the assay.
Column S = # nematodes per 500 cc soil.
Column H = # hazard index for crop.
Nematode Counts & Hazard Index (potential crop damage)
The value in the “H” column is an index of potential harm by the nematode species to the crop listed on the same line.
Hazard index:
0-19 Very Low
20-39 Low
40-59 Moderate
60-79 High
80-100 Very High
So what does this mean?
In the example given above, multiple types of nematodes were found (Lance, Spiral, etc...) in Sample ID SY01.
Looking at the Lance nematode column:
There were 3500 nematodes per 500 cc of soil.
The hazard index is 15-40 which means Very Low to Moderate for the crop (turfgrass) that is indicated for this sample.
Action Code is B: Possible damage; consider chemical treatment.
Nema Note 7-2: Nematode Parasites of Turf Grass
