N.C. Forest Service - Training Facilities
The agency operates three training facilities: the Mountain Training Facility in Crossnore, the Ralph Winkworth Forestry Center in Kinston and the Stanford M. Adams Training Center in Chapel Hill. One location offers overnight accommodations, dining services and classroom environments with internet access and multimedia capabilities. The campuses are available for use by state agencies and other institutions or organizations at reasonable rates.
The NCFS Mountain Training Facility is located at Gill State Forest on the banks of the Linville River and near the town of Crossnore in Avery County. It is open to all state government agencies and features an outdoor firing range, low ropes course, state-of-the art audiovisual equipment and wireless internet access.
The area features rivers filled with stocked trout, waterfalls and hiking trails leading to the historic Sloop Dam. Nearby is the Blue Ridge parkway, area ski resorts and the popular Grandfather Mountain, home of the Mile High Swinging Bridge.
Located at the Kinston Global Transpark, the Ralph Winkworth Training Facility features classroom accommodations.
Located in Chatham County, the Stanford M. Adams Training Facility at Jordan Lake Educational State Forest is surrounded by beautiful forestland and features hiking trails, wildlife viewing, picnic shelters and Jordan Lake. The training facility is open to all state and federal government agencies as well as other groups.
