Folk Festival
The Folk Festival was established in 1948 to preserve and promote the music and dance of North Carolina’s early years and to provide wholesome entertainment for visitors to the NC State Fair.
- Registration deadline Sunday, September 15, 2024.
- NC Substitute W-9 forms are required for prize money to be awarded in Music categories only.
- Submit questions to: ncsfCompetitions@ncagr.gov
- The Folk Festival will be held near Heritage Circle on the west side of the fairgrounds in a large tent beside the white church.
- Competition is open to residents of the United State of America.
- General Rules and Regulations of the Fair will govern this department.
- All performances have a maximum time limit of 8 minutes.
- Professional sound engineers on hand every day.
- Folk Festival has three Divisions:
- HERITAGE DANCE (Clogging) - Backed by live music and judged by professional clogging judges the first four days of the festival.
- NOVELTY & CONTEMPORARY DANCE (Non-Clogging) - Bring your own music. Performance ONLY. Novelty & Contemporary Dance are not judged.
- MUSIC - Traditional vocal and instrumental styles. Perform solo or with backing recorded music. Backed by live music if performing on the 18th through the 21st.
