Chris grew up in Ashe County where his grandfather farmed burley tobacco and raised cattle and his father raised Fraser Fir Christmas trees. Chris has a B.S. in Environmental Studies with a focus on botany from UNC Asheville. After graduating, he started an organic farm focusing on diversified vegetables and greenhouse tomatoes.
Chris has been with the Department of Agriculture since 2001. He started at the Mountain Research Station in Waynesville where he was a Research Specialist. Chris has been with the Agronomic Division since 2014 and enjoys working in a very diversified farming region and helping farmers be successful so they can continue to farm.
